RALPH T. KNIGHT, M.D.

Dr. Ralph T. Knight assumed the Direction of the American Society of Anesthesiologists as its
President at the Annual Meeting in Philadelphia last month.

Dr. Knight has held many positions of responsibility, including that of a Member of the Board of
Directors of the ASA. He was the first President of the First Component Society of the American
Society of Anesthesiologists.

At the present time, Dr. Knight is Clinic Professor of Anesthesiology at the Medical School and
Medical Graduate School of the University of Minnesota. He is Consultant and Director of the
Department of Anesthesiology at Minneapolis Veterans Hospital. Under his direction, nearly one
hundred Doctors of Medicine have received one, two, or more years of residency training in
Anesthesiology in the Medical Graduate School and are practicing this specialty in widely
scattered places.

During World War I, Dr. Knight served as an Ambulance Battalion Commander and as a
Surgeon in an Army Hospital in France. After that war he became a Fellow of the American
College of Surgeons and practiced surgery until 1936, since which time he has limited his
medical practice to the specialty of Anesthesiology. Dr. Knight is a Diplomate of the American
Board of Anesthesiology and has served many times as an Associate Examiner for that Board.

Under his able and experienced leadership, the American Society of Anesthesiologists will
continue to carry out the programs that have been undertaken in the past, and will adopt others
that seem expedient during his term of office.
