Robert T. Capps, M.D.*

ROBERT T. CAPPS, M.D.

Robert T. Capps, M.D. was installed as President of the American Society of Anesthesiologists at the
final meeting of the 1982 House of Delegates on Tuesday, October 26 during the ASA Annual Meeting in
Las Vegas, Nevada.

He succeeds Dr. Louis S. Blancato of Pellham, New York, who served as President during the past year.

Dr. Capps has been engaged in the private practice of anesthesiology in Portland, Oregon since 1960 and
currently serves as a staff physician at Providence Medical Center.

He has served as an Associate Professor of Surgery in Anesthesiology at the University of Washington
Medical School in Seattle from 1959 to 1960 and as an Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at the
University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas from 1957 to 1959.

Dr. Capps is a Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology, and is a Fellow of the American
College of Anesthesiologists.

He has had a long and distinguished affiliation with the American Society of Anesthesiologists. He
began as a Delegate from the Oregon Society of Anesthesiologists in 1967 and rose to the rank of
President Elect of ASA last year.

Dr. Capps has served as a member of the Board of Governors of the American College of
Anesthesiologists and as President of the Oregon Society of Anesthesiologists. He is a member of the
American Medical Association and numerous other professional organizations.

A native of Ohio, he received his B.S. degree in Pharmacy from Ohio Northern University in 1942 and
Ph.D. degree in Pharmacology from the University of Wisconsin Graduate School at Madison in 1950.
Dr. Capps received his M.D. degree from the University of Wisconsin Medical School in 1954.
