Abstract: Snow agrees that anesthetic given to the mother affects the newborn, but not to an alarming degree. He discusses guidelines for the safe administration of chloroform anesthesia during labor, noting that total unconsciousness of the parturient may not be necessary. He advises that the use of anesthesia be determined by the severity of the case, and the physical constitution of the patient.
