FRANK MOYA, M.D.

Frank Moya, M.D., Miami, Florida, was installed as President of the American Society of
Anesthesiologists at the final meeting of the 1974 House of Delegates on Wednesday, October
16, during the ASA Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C.

He succeeds Dr. David M. Little, Jr., Hartford, Connecticut, who held office during the past year.

Dr. Moya is Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology at the Mount Sinai Medical Center
of Miami Beach and Professor of Anesthesiology at the University of Miami School of
Medicine. He was Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at Columbia University College of
Physicians and Surgeons until 1962 when, at the age of 33, he was appointed Chairman of the
Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Miami School of Medicine. Dr. Moya later
became Associate Dean for Hospital Affairs at the University of Miami School of Medicine, as
well as Acting Dean, thus making him the youngest full-time departmental chairman and dean in
the United States.

Dr. Moya is Chief Consultant for the Anesthesiology Services at American Hospital, Miami,
Hialeah Hospital, Hialeah, and the Fort Lauderdale Heart Institute, Fort Lauderdale. He also
serves as Consultant in Anesthesiology at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Miami.

Dr. Moya has served the ASA as Vice President for Scientific Affairs, as well as Chairman of the
Committee on Research, the Committee on Annual Session, the Workshop on Management, the
Committee on Planning, and various other committees. In addition, he was the Chief Coordinator
for the Task Force on Acupuncture in 1972.

Born in New York City on January 20, 1929, Dr. Moya received his B.A. Degree from New
York University in 1949, and his M.D. from the State University College, New York City, in
1953. He served in the United States Navy from 1953-1958, and was a Resident in
Anesthesiology at the United States Naval Hospital, St. Albans, New York. He was Chief of the
Anesthesiology Service at the United States Naval Hospital, Great Lakes, Illinois.

Widely known for his extensive research in obstetric anesthesia and newborn physiology, Dr.
Moya is the author of 113 articles, and he has authored and/or co-authored five textbooks.

Dr. Moya has served as President of the Association of University Anesthetists, President of the
Society of Academic Anesthesia Chairmen, and Chairman of the Section on Anesthesiology of
the Southern Medical Association.

A Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology, he is a Fellow of the American College
of Anesthesiologists and a member of the International Anesthesia Research Society, New York
Academy of Medicine, New York Academy of Sciences, and the Florida Society of
Anesthesiologists, of which he has served as Director. He has additionally served as Special
Consultant, N.I.G.M.S., National Institutes of Health, Anesthesiology Training Committee,
Member of the Editorial Board of Postgraduate Medicine, Fellow of the Royal Society of
Medicine, Fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacology, and Member of the
Editorial Advisory Board of Anesthesiology News and Review.

In addition to the above, Dr. Moya has been elected to many honor societies, such as Alpha
Omega Alpha, Caduceus Premedical Honor Society, Omicron Delta Kappa Sigma Xi, and The
Iron Arrow.

Due to his expertise in management analysis, in recent years Dr. Moya has been called upon as
management consultant to various academic institutions, hospitals, and professional corporations
throughout the United States.
