RICHARD AMENT, M.D.

Richard Ament, M.D. was installed as President of the American Society of Anesthesiologists at
the final meeting of the 1976 ASA House of Delegates on Wednesday, October 13, during the
ASA Annual Meeting in San Francisco.

He succeeds Dr. John W. Ditzler, Washington, D.C., who held office during the past year.

Dr. Ament is Clinical Professor in Anesthesiology at the State University of New York at
Buffalo, as well as Attending Anesthesiologist at Buffalo General Hospital.

Dr. Ament received his M.D. degree in 1942 from the University of Buffalo School of Medicine.
He served his internship at Buffalo General Hospital from 1942-1943, followed by his military
service as a Captain in the Medical Corps at the Army Air Force Regional Hospital, Sheppard
Field, Texas, from 1943 to 1946. From 1947 to 1949, Dr. Ament took his residency in
anesthesiology at Bellevue Hospital, New York.

Dr. Ament has served the ASA as 1st Vice President, as a member of the House of Delegates and
Board of Directors, as Chairman of the Committees on Manpower, Finance, Annual Meeting
Sites and Anesthesia Organizations, and as a member of various committees, including the
Committees on Acute Medicine, Anesthesia Care Team, Bylaws, Economics, Regional Refresher
Courses, and Workshops.

As a member of the New York State Society of Anesthesiologists, Dr. Ament has served as Vice Speaker,
Vice President, and President. He has also served as a member of the NYSSA Committees on Education,
Legal Affairs, Economics, Bylaws and Peer Review.

Dr. Ament is a Fellow of the American College of Anesthesiologists and has served as a member
of the ACA Board of Governors. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology, a
member of the Medical Society of the County of Erie, and a member of the Medical Society of
the State of New York.

In addition, Dr. Ament has served as a member of the Comprehensive Health Planning Council
of Erie County, and the Faculty Council of the School of Medicine at the State University of
New York at Buffalo.
