The building depicted in the painting is the Rider Tavern in Charlton Massachusetts. According to the Charlton Historical Society the Rider Tavern is "one of the least altered and best documented examples of a wayside tavern of the Federal period in New England." Also, according to a Charlton visitors guide, the Rider Tavern has been "named one of the ten most outstanding buildings in the state" of Massachusetts.

white trim. Blue sky and green, light green, red, and yellow vegetation.
Trees with some bare branches. View of building from a lot across the street.
The lot seems to have overgrown vegetation obscuring a stone wall, which in
turn obscures most of the road. The building depicted in the painting is the
Rider Tavern in Charlton Massachusetts. The Waters-Morton House is also in
Charlton Massachusetts. According to the Charlton Historical Society the
Rider Tavern is “one of the least altered and best documented examples of a
wayside tavern of the Federal period in New England.” Also, according to a
