DAVID M. LITTLE, JR., M.D.

David M. Little, Jr., M.D., Hartford, Connecticut, was installed as President of the American
Society of Anesthesiologists at the final meeting of the 1973 House of Delegates on Thursday,
October 11, during the ASA Annual Meeting in San Francisco, California.

Dr. Little is on the Senior Staff of the Department of Anesthesiology, Hartford Hospital,
Hartford, Connecticut.

He has served the ASA in various capacities, including Chairman of the Section on Education,
General Chairman of the Annual Meeting, Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the Wood
Library-Museum, Chairman of the Board of Directors’ Committee on Scientific Affairs, Second
Vice President, First Vice President, a member of the House of Delegates for the past 10 years
and a member of the Board of Directors for the past seven years.

Dr. Little is a Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology and a previous Director,
Secretary-Treasurer and immediate past President of its Board of Directors. Also, he is a Fellow
of the American College of Anesthesiologists and a past member of its Board of Governors.

A native of Boston, Dr. Little received the A.B. Degree from Princeton University in 1941 and
his M.D. Degree from Hartford Medical College in 1944. He served internships at both Hartford
Hospital and Boston Lying-In Hospital and took his residency training in Anesthesiology at
Hartford Hospital and as an exchange resident in the McGill University Diploma Course in
Anaesthesia at Montreal, Canada.

He served in the United States Navy from 1945 to 1946 and again during the Korean incident
from 1953 to 1955.

Dr. Little is a former President of the Academy of Anesthesiology and of the New England
Society of Anesthesiologists.

In addition to his position in Hartford Hospital, Dr. Little is Consultant in Anesthesiology at the
Newington Childrens’ Hospital, Newington, Connecticut, at the Middlesex Memorial Hospital,
Middletown, Connecticut; at the Day Kimball Hospital, Putnam, Connecticut; and at the
Stamford Hospital, Stamford, Connecticut. He is a member of the Connecticut State Society of
Anesthesiologists, the New England Society of Anesthesiologists, the International Anesthesia
Research Society, the Academy of Anesthesiology, the Hartford Medical Society, the Hartford
County Medical Association, the Connecticut State Medical Society, the American Medical
Association, and the New York Academy of Sciences, of which he is a Fellow. In addition to
authoring over sixty articles in medical literature, he has written three books and several chapters
in symposia and others’ texts, and has participated in editorial activities for several journals.
