H. KETCHAM MORRELL, M.D.

H. Ketcham Morrell, M.D., President of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, serves as
Clinical Professor of Anesthesiology at Upstate Medical Center and attending anesthesiologist
at St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center, both at Syracuse, NY.

Dr. Morrell was installed as ASA President in October at the Society’s Annual Meeting in
New Orleans.

A native of White Plains, NY, he received a B.S. degree in 1954 from St. Lawrence
University and his M.D. degree in 1954 from the State University of New York in Syracuse.
He served an Internship at St. Joseph’s Hospital from 1954-1955 and his residency at
Grassland’s Hospital in Valhalla, NY from 1955 to 1957.

He has served the ASA in a number of capacities, including: Chairman of Reference
Committees, Chairman of the Committee on Economics, Chairman of the Board of Director’s
Committee on Administrative Affairs, as Alternate Director and Director from District No.
4, First Vice-President in 1983, and President Elect in 1984.

He has served also as President, Vice President and Vice Speaker of the New York State
Society of Anesthesiologists.

Dr. Morrell is a Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology, a Fellow of the
American College of Anesthesiologists, and is a member of the American Medical
Association, New York State Society of Anesthesiologists, Medical Society of the State of
New York, Onondaga County Medical Society, and the International Anesthesia Research
Society.
