ROLLAND J. WHITACRE, M.D.

Dr. Rolland J. Whitacre is the new President of the American Society of Anesthesiologists. He
will direct its programs and policies throughout the year 1950. Dr. Whitacre, who practices
anesthesiology at Huron Road Hospital in East Cleveland, Ohio, was one of the first to engage in
that specialty in the Buckeye State. Well qualified for the office which he assumes, not only by
his long experience in the specialty, but also by reason of his continuous activity in the
organizations of the specialty of anesthesiology, this Society is extremely fortunate to have Dr.
Whitacre take over the helm.

Besides serving on many committees of the society, Dr. Whitacre has been Associate Editor of
Anesthesiology and a member of the Board of Directors of the ASA since 1940. He is also one of
the ASA representatives on the American Board of Anesthesiology. During the past year, he has
been very active in the affairs of the Society and as a member of its Executive Committee, is
cognizant of the programs and policies of the Society. Under his able leadership, the Society will
make many forward strides during the coming year.
