Abstract: Merrimack is in New Hampshire, and Newburyport is in Massachusetts. The
focus of Cary’s lecture was on the physiology of apparent death, its
common causes and methods of restoration to life. He also provides a
historical account on the concept and founding if humane societies.
Resuscitation techniques included bloodletting, electrical stimulation,
and warming the victim.
