Abstract: Colton replies to an article published by Mrs. William T.G. Morton in McClures Magazine (Sept. 1896) celebrating the 50th anniversary of Morton’s public demonstration of ether anesthesia. Colton reiterates the honor of the discovery to Horace Wells, and writes that Morton only deserves the recognition of promoting the use of ether anesthesia.
