Abstract: Deleuze was a leading advocate of animal magnetism in France, a follower of Puysegur, who began to investigate animal magnetism in 1785. This work is considered one of the most important popular manuals for the practice of animal magnetism.

General Notes: This work went through at least four editions in thirty years in France, and was translated into several foreign languages. The WLM has english editions from 1838, 1843, 1850 and 1884.
