Abstract: The terms of the contract were in favor of Mesmer and prohibited
students of mesmerism from passing acquired knowledge on to any one
else. It also barred students from entering contractual agreements
with government and community agencies and from setting up public
clinics for treating patients. Violation of any restrictions would
cost Rousseau 150,000 livres as a breach of contract.

General Notes: This French document occupies one and a half pages of the oversized
sheet, all apparently in the handwriting of Jean Rousseau who signed at
the end of the document. It was countersigned in darker ink by
Chastenet-Puységur as a witness. This document was signed on September
23, 1784.
