Abstract: This is a petition to the Connecticut General Assembly jointly issued by H.P. Stearns and James McManus on behalf of the state medical and dental associations to request a sum of several thousand dollars for the construction of a monument commemorating the discovery of anesthesia by Horace Wells. This petition chronicles Wells’ experiments and discovery to Morton’s public demonstration, all in light of Wells’ critical role in the discovery.
