Shortly after the publication of the Report of the Second Hyderabad
Chloroform Commission in 1889, the Lancet appointed another commission
for the clinical investigation of chloroform and other anesthetics.
The Lancet Commission sent questionnaires to all members of the British
medical profession, and to all hospitals with more than 10 beds in the
United Kingdom, Continental Europe, the British Colonies, the United
States and India. Data from the questionnaires were collected in 1891.
The report was originally published in the Lancet in 1893. The
republication includes the texts of the two Hyderabad Reports with
slight editorial changes.
