Abstract: In this reprint, William James Morton, son of William T.G. Morton, presents a biographical sketch of Dr. Morton and a history of anesthesia up to the time of its discovery. The author pronounces his father to be both the “innovator and inventor of practical ether anesthesia.” [p. 16]
